Kuum Hotel and Resort, Bodrum, Turkey

With practices in New York and Istanbul, Global Architectural Development create an innovative resort with idealic settings
Located in Bodrum, an international destination renowned for its wonderful climate, turquoise waters and cosmopolitan atmosphere, The Hotel Spa & Residences is an innovative concept for boutique lifestyle and resorts. The typical resort typology found in Bodrum is of whitewash, box-like buildings that create a very homogenous effect. In response to the area’s normative conditions, GAD’s brief was to create an alternate typology for the area.

The architecture was inspired by the regional beauty, resources and historical legacy of southwestern Turkey and the Aegean Sea. Nestled on a seafront bay, the property uniquely coexists within the hillside topography. The resort has a 66 hotel rooms, 13 private residences, health spa, restaurants, and other recreational and leisure activities. The intention of the design is to create a contemporary and transcendental atmosphere.

Kuum was designed not only as a resort, but as a small settlement with a village like atmosphere. The different building typologies are organized throughout the site to serve various programmatic needs creating zones of heterogeneity. The building shapes were also a consequence of the site’s topographical ebbs and flows. GAD focused on creating a variation through the senses, in particular the visual, tactile and olfactory.
