Himalayan Ski Village, Himalayas, India

Studio Seilern Architects design the Himalayan Ski Village in India
The Himalayan Ski Village (HSV) is a proposition for the first ski resort in India, with the aim of developing ski slopes and tourism facilities in the lower Himalayas.
HSV will include a village and mountain area spread across 116 hectares of land, which will include hotels, chalets, suites, conference facilities, an entertainment centre, restaurants, and retail. The project is set out in a master plan by Jack Zehren and Associates, of Avon, CO, USA.
SSA’s project consists of two seven-star condominium suite hotels, containing a total of 47 Suites, and a further 4 Penthouse suites. The concept of the project anchors around a detailed study of the indigenous Himachali architecture, and using the essence of the local architectonic language and materiality, while bringing it to a contemporary and programmatic relevance. The building unfolds itself on two buildings which have been massed to a modular dimensioning system, maximizing the flexibility of the internal layouts to the current market demands. The structure of the building organizes itself on a tri-partite configuration of a stone-base, timber and stone shaft, and timber cantilever balconies so typical of most mountainous architecture.
