OMA to redevelop london's iconic commonwealth institute

the office for metropolitan architecture (OMA), was recently selected to redevelop the iconic commonwealth
institute in kensington and chelsea, london. the building was built in 1962 by robert matthew and johnson-marshall
and partners. after the threat of almost being demolished, a plan was created to reinvigorate the site while
preserving the historic building. OMA emerged as the winner against 5 other competitors. their plan will explore
the potential of the existing building while also developing residential space and connecting the site to the nearby
holland park.
