Silverstone pitlane, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom

HOK Sport Architecture designs for the new pitlane and paddock complex have been revealed to the British Racing Drivers Club.
The new facilities will form the centrepiece of a radical new design to bring the existing racetrack in line with 21st Century stadia.
Britain has a long and distinguished history of achievement in motor sport. The country leads the world in the design, development and manufacture of competition vehicles, and the majority of the world's single-seat racing car constructors are based in the UK. It has developed a role as a vital testing facility for the motorsport and automotive industry, and this has put it at the heart of Britain's Formula One success. This role is enhanced by Silverstone's location at the centre of the UK's motor sport cluster.
The Silverstone site, approximately 850 acres, is one of the world's most famous motor racing venues, located approximately 60 miles North of London, where the British Grand Prix is currently held. During the past few years, a number of major improvements have been implemented including revisions to traffic and access, BRDC headquarters and a purpose built Porsche testing facility. Further site developments are required to ensure sustainability and future British Grand Prix's being held at Silverstone. Key to this is the development of a new Pitlane and Paddock complex which is intended to be the catalyst for an integrated approach to regenerate an underutilised facility by the development of a site wide development strategy which will adopt a master plan of which phase 1 has been completed by HOK sport architecture.
This proposed master plan includes the preliminary planning for a revised motor racing circuit, incorporating as many features of the existing track as possible whilst providing enhanced driver challenges, new core spectator facilities including corporate grandstand, associated leisure/commercial/community facilities, technology park and hotel and conference facilities.
HOK sport architecture have been appointed to design the new pioneering iconic Pitlane and Paddock complex with the integrated ability to accommodate flexible conference/exhibition space along with new academy facility provision to maximise the usage outside major event days in order to provide a stable commercial platform for the development.
The new Pitlane and paddock is due to be completed in time for Silverstone hosting the 2009 British Grand Prix.
