Ecological architectural principles used for leading Spanish artist exhibition
Using the ecological and sustainable principles that they applied to their TDA House, Cadaval & Solà-Morales, have created an exhibition design for one of Spain’s most important artists, Susana Solano. Cadaval & Solà-Morales accepted the commission to design this itinerary exhibition to start in Madrid’s ICO Foundation (one of the must prestigious exhibition spaces In Spain) and agreed with the client that they would search for sustainable solutions. Whilst some ecological steps are been taken regarding architecture or urbanism it seems that exhibition design is floating on a limbo, were architects or designers, can waste energy and resources with no limit. So, in contrast to the waste of materials and energy often associated with exhibitions, the main objective of the project was to create a 100% recyclable design.

The result is one of the cheapest designs ever built by the ICO foundation and one which uses almost 100% recycled material that itself could be recycled again once the exhibition is over. The models of public sculptures done by Susana Solano are treated as jewels that relate to each other visually, as well as historically. Held within a single system designed to suit two spaces with opposed spatial attributes, but allowing for a single reading of the exhibit. The exhibition’s fragile, white, translucent, almost sacramental envelope is built to receive a number of sturdy and powerful pieces
